I have books all lined up in neat stacks on the table in our school room, and I'm at the point of being ready to plan out our general school plan for next year.It sounds like I'm all ready, doesn't it? So, what's the problem?
Well, I have had those books sitting nicely like that for about a week. I keep thinking about it off and on, but haven't really started working on it yet. I think that I'm so concerned about making sure that next school is more organized than last school year (our first of homeschooling) that I am making myself a little more nervous than I should be.
I decided that one thing that I think will be key for next year will be to have a general schedule to follow. Sorry if this seems like an elementary kind of point, but I just didn't really think about doing it last year. And, by the time I did think of doing it, it almost seemed like it was too late, and so I just muddled through, deciding each week what we were going to do, when we might do it, and how often we were going to get to it.
This year, I have resolved to come up with a plan. Unfortunately, I do not have that plan right at this moment. But, I am praying that by the end of this week, I will have said plan.
I was inspired reading through this sample of suggested amounts to do each subject throughout a week. I would love to be inspired by you too! (And I promise to come back when I have a plan and share it with everyone too.)
This week, I challenge you to either comment here or post on your own blog (and then come back and leave us the link) to your general week plan. C'mon...you know you want to do it! It'll give you something to write about, and it just might inspire someone else!
I thought I would add in links to this post of people who share their schedule as well (at least for the next week or so):
Beth from Apples and Jammies (overview of how often they are doing each subject throughout the school year)
Karin from Passport Academy (overview of weekly schedule for the year, includes graphic of schedule)
Marci at Homeschooling - A Life (overview, with explanations, of what they plan for next year's weekly schedule)
Second Star to the Right at Straight On Till Morning (listing of what pieces of curriculum they will be using, as well as a weekly schedule)
Joelle at homeschooling for his glory (planner pages, plus her schedule)
Adventures in Learning with Izzy and Elly (this is a one week sample with young children)
Jenny at Our Nifty Notebook (post about events that they want to do each month for the first half of the school year)
Thanks to everyone who has shared/will share!
Angie can be found writing at Many Little Blessings about faith, family, household management, mixed in with trying to live a little greener, the occasional recipe, and a crafty project from time to time.

Thanks for the link! I look forward to reading it! I've been searching for something along those lines and just haven't been able to find it.
Thanks again!
You posted this on a great week for me! This is MY week off. When we started homeschooling the one thing I said I would always do would be to send my kids to a camp in the summer. We have an audubon that we go to for classes during the year, I know the staff well, and the kids love it there, so this week they are at camp all day. It's nice to know they are able to leave me and feel comfortable, they have each other after all. So this week I plan on working on my new lapbooks that I want to start selling on my blog. I am currently working on one about Disney World.
I am one of those twisted people who actually enjoy planning, so it didn't take much to twist my arm! (It was already in the works. Just needed some tweaking.) Here's my proposed schedule: http://applesandjammies.blogspot.com/2009/07/weekly-schedule.html
Everyweek I post what I am doing for the week ahead. I only have a two year old and 9 month old but I love it.

Love your blog!
I've been working on my schedule. I have one up at PassportAcademy.com
Too funny! I just posted about next school year:
http://ourniftynotebook.blogspot.com/2009/07/2009-to-2010-homeschool-planning-part-1.html
However, this is just part 1 and includes our calendar year and monthly field trip ideas.
Next week, I was going to get into the curriculum and daily plan.
This is great! I have been working on my school year plan, schedule is next. I am not sure when it will be up on my blog but hopefully soon.
I love schedules! Thanks for doing this! I cannot wait to read everyone else's schedules. I will post mine for next year when I get it finished....it may be a week or so before I finalize it. It is in my head, but I have not had time to put it all down on paper and work out the kinks.
I love planning and scheduling. Here's the URL for my schedule: http://marcijohnson.blogspot.com/2009/07/weekly-schedule.html
I just posted our schedule/curriculum at my blog.

Great post.. thank you for sharing!! Over here we have a mixed way of doing things. I got the suggestions for how often to do each subject from The Well Trained Mind, by S. Bauer, and then I got the rest from C. Mason and the TJED principles.
If you would like to know more.. stop by our blog and see for yourself... =)
We do some stuff every day and then each day of the week we hit on a specific subject...
I use a lot of stuff from DonnaYoung.org for my organization as well as she makes things so easy to use!! =)
There is so much out there!! Looking forward to others suggestions!

Oh, this has come at just the right time! This is our first official year & I've been struggling on trying to set up a plan! Now I have many plans to look through & get an idea on how to get started on a plan for us.
Thank you!

Hi, I've followed a link from Rana's blog & come to talk about our homeschool :)
We don't follow much of a fixed schedule, except that we do most of our "book learning" in the mornings when we're fresh. We do a lot of afternoon & evening activities, including twice weekly Ju-Jutsu classes. We try to do certain things, like silent reading and reading aloud, spelling, French, and math every day. Lessons tend to be short, so there's plenty of time left over for chores, pleasure reading, and other explorations.
Library isn't on a fixed day. We use a lot of video, so we fit that in when things are aired or when we receive DVD's in the mail. Usually we're pretty eager to watch something when we've planned for it, and it finally arrives!
Instead of a fixed schedule, we plan to use checklists to be sure we're meeting our educational goals for the year. So many science labs, so many book reports, so many special projects, etc. The list is different for each child, as are the expectations for the effort & depth of the work.
Cheers!
Ruby
