Tell us a little about yourself and your blog...
I’m Barb and I can be found at A Glimpse Into Barb’s Life. My blog started as a way for me to share my knitting and other crafty things that I’ve done with people and has morphed into a peek into my life.
Some days my posts are all craft related, but most days you’ll find pictures and things that make me happy or have to do with my daily life. Sometimes there’s even some homeschooling thrown in!
Can you share a little bit about your family?
I’ve been married to my dh for 12 years. We are the proud parents of 2 wonderful boys. My husband is in the Coast Guard and we are currently living in Ketchikan, AK. My oldest son (J) will be in the 5th grade this fall and my younger son (T) will be in the 1st grade.
We have been active in the AWANA’s program, Cub Scouts, and 4H for the past few years. Due to the move, we won’t be continuing 4H.
Do you use a specific approach to homeschooling or a more eclectic approach?
I try to let the kids lead. We homeschool through a charter school and have to follow their rules, but we are allowed to move at our own pace as long as we meet their requirements.
What do you hope that your children will gain from homeschooling?
I hope that the boys learn respect. Respect for themselves and respect for those around them. I also hope that they’ll learn to think for themselves and to not follow the crowd.
Have your children exclusively been homeschooled or have they attended public or private school at some point?
The boys have been homeschooled since birth.
Why did you decide that you wanted to be a writer for The Homeschool Classroom?
We are a military homeschooling family. I wanted to write for The Homeschool Classroom to share the journey, the trials, and the joys of our situation. For example, we moved from California to Alaska and had to disenroll from our Charter School six weeks before the school year ended. We moved our classroom setting from the kitchen table to the car and the hotel room.
Is there anything else that you want to share to help us get to know you better?
I’m thankful for the opportunity to homeschool my boys and so very grateful that my husband is so supportive and behind me 100% with the decision, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to share my homeschooling journey with The Homeschool Classroom readers.
